| The
New Mexico Gay Rodeo Association was established in 1984
as a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the western lifestyle
within the gay community. NMGRA also has a proud history of fundraising
for charitable organizations within New Mexico. Each year, NMGRA
produces the Zia Regional Rodeo, our premier fundraiser and
the state's second largest LGBT event. In the past, the rodeo's
profits have been donated to New Mexico AIDS Services, New Mexico
Breast Cancer Coalition, New Mexico Domestic Violence Hotline and
People Of Color AIDS Foundation, to name a few. The
New Mexico Gay Rodeo Association is a member of the International
Gay Rodeo Association. IGRA is comprised of 21 member associations
throughout the United States and Canada, and annually, these member
associations produce 19 rodeos. Each rodeo season concludes with
the IGRA Finals Rodeo. NMGRA was the proud host of the Finals
Rodeo in both 1996 and 2000.
In addition to regular membership meetings
and social gatherings, NMGRA holds bi-monthly fundraisers in community
venues. We also participate in all of the New Mexico Pride Events
(Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces). NMGRA is an active member
of the Coalition for Equality in New Mexico, an organization dedicated
to promoting LGBT issues. |
